The "Current Approaches in Orthotics and Prosthetics," organized by the Department of Orthotics and Prosthetics at Ondokuz Mayıs University's Faculty of Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotists Association (OPODER), was hosted by OMU on Saturday, December 6th.
The event, attended by the entire management team of OPODER, a group founded in 1992 and dedicated to protecting the professional rights of clinics operating in the prosthetics and orthotics sector and ensuring the sustainability of the sector, served as an important meeting point for professionals in the Black Sea region.
The event attracted considerable interest from clinic representatives, specialists, graduates, and approximately 200 students of the OMU Orthotics and Prosthetics Department from various cities in the Black Sea region. Participants attended two separate presentations covering current developments in both theory and practice.
The presentations addressed topics such as innovations in prosthetics and orthotic technologies, quality processes in clinical practice, the future of the sector, professional standards, patient-centered design, and the impact of digitalization.
At the end of the event, academic staff, OPODER management, and industry representatives gathered to exchange views on regional collaborations, internship and practice opportunities, sectoral issues, and proposed solutions. In this respect, the event served not only as an informative meeting but also as a strategic platform to strengthen industry-university collaboration.
The OMÜ Orthotics and Prosthetics Department emphasized that such events aim to both broaden students' professional vision and contribute to the development of the prosthetics and orthotics field in Turkey.
